From 13 - 16 March 2024, DIGITHALIA - the festival for virtual theater forms Graz at Schauspielhaus Graz is dedicated to theater forms that use the digital space to search for new narrative styles. Narratives that question and enrich the theater.
The stage has always been a place where technical progress has been used and negotiated. Stage machines and artificial lighting were followed by sound recordings and video projections - devices that we have long since become accustomed to, that are hard to imagine without and that are used to design theater spaces and tell stories in a variety of ways. And now AIs, live streams, computer animations and robots are entering the stage. What are they doing there?
With DIGITHALIA, the Schauspielhaus Graz will become a platform for these new, virtual forms of theater for four days. It offers insights into the possibilities and impossibilities of new technologies for the theater and makes it possible to experience what digitality seeks, attempts and can do on stage.
The first edition of the festival brings together regional and international guest performances with the Schauspielhaus's own productions. The theater encounters surreal apps, dancing robots and self-critical artificial intelligence. It becomes a stage for stories about the isolation of digital natives and the exploration of future worlds.
A theater festival for technology skeptics, geeks, nerds and everyone in between these worlds.
