Map Your Spot - join Orbyte
The starting point of the project is the question: What knowledge about a city exists beyond official archives? Cities are not only made of buildings and landmarks, but also of experiences, routines and subjective meanings. An inconspicuous viewpoint, a bench by the river, a place of encounter or a spot where something special once happened – all these individual perspectives form an alternative urban memory.

Starting points
The starting point of the project is the question: What knowledge about a city exists beyond official archives? Cities are not only made of buildings and landmarks, but also of experiences, routines and subjective meanings. An inconspicuous viewpoint, a bench by the river, a place of encounter or a spot where something special once happened – all these individual perspectives form an alternative urban memory.
Through “Map Your Spot – join Orbyte”, people can share exactly this kind of knowledge. Contributions can mark places, describe them or tell short stories. The platform understands these entries not merely as recommendations, but as building blocks of a collective cartography that connects personal experiences with urban space. In this way, a living map emerges that tells the story of the city from the perspective of its residents and visitors.
Research
The starting point of our research is Salzburg. At the same time, the project is intentionally designed to remain open: in principle, the approach can be transferred to other cities – across Austria and, ultimately, worldwide. Wherever people connect meaning to places, such a map can emerge.
“Map Your Spot – join Orbyte” can be experienced both digitally and physically. On the platform, visitors can explore the contributions of others and, starting from their own device, immerse themselves in an urban landscape described by many voices. At the same time, the project invites people to set out on their own explorations: to visit spots in the city, form their own impressions and discover new perspectives on familiar places.
Join Orbyte
“Map Your Spot – join Orbyte” invites people to look at the city in a new way: not as a finished map, but as an open space full of personal traces. Each marker is a small contribution to a shared, multilayered narrative of the city.
